Yard waste is a type of garbage that should be disposed of properly. It includes grass clippings, leaves, and trimmings from trees and shrubs that are less than four feet long. Yard waste must be placed curbside in a reusable container or paper bag. Yard waste must not exceed three cubic yards per week. Yard waste containers must be labeled with a yard waste sticker.

Compliant yard waste will be collected by your local weekly yard waste hauler on a regularly scheduled collection day. Yard waste pick-ups typically take place every other week from May to October, every three weeks in November, and every week in December. Yard waste is collected in a variety of containers, including paper bags, bundles, and 32-gallon garbage cans. Yard waste that does not meet these requirements may not be collected.

Compliant yard waste must be collected on a Wednesday. In order to comply with City Code, the collection should not begin earlier than seven a.m. Collection day is subject to holiday and emergency cancellations. Yard waste haulers will direct recyclable material to processing facilities contracted with the city. To obtain a recycling contract, offerors must submit a proposal to the city.

If you live in a city that requires residents to sort and store yard waste, you can also request a one-time pick-up. Some cities hold annual curbside clean-up days. In addition, if you need a one-time solution for yard waste, you can schedule a pick-up with a yard waste hauling company.

When collecting yard waste, you must follow the rules for the disposal of the brush. The brush should be at least four feet long and six inches wide. A brush that is larger than these requirements should be bundled or placed in a separate bin labeled “Brush.” Yard waste should be packaged in a compostable brown paper Kraft bag and should not weigh more than 50 pounds. Yard waste haulers also collect Christmas trees during the winter.

Yard waste that is not in compliance with the laws is not collected by your weekly yard waste hauler. Generally, you need to have a one-yard waste tote per two units of your home. Make sure to cover the tote and secure the lid tightly with a plastic bag or tarp to prevent water from accumulating and blowing away. Be sure to remove any flexible plastic items such as bubble wrap or shrink wrap.

Yard waste collection is scheduled for Wednesdays. It’s a residential service only. Contractors must remove the yard waste at their own expense. If your yard waste contains construction debris, it will not be picked up curbside. The contracted garbage company for your city won’t pick up construction or home improvement debris. These materials can include tile, wood flooring, metal siding, fencing, baseboards, drywall, sliding glass doors, large pieces of glass, cabinets, and more.
